Suspected Boko Haram fighters have launched a series of brutal attacks across parts of Borgu and Agwara Local Government Areas in Niger State, killing at least 21 people and triggering widespread terror among residents.

According to security sources cited by security analyst Comrade Zakari Y. Adamu Kontogora, the gunmen moved from village to village late on Friday night, shooting residents and burning homes.

The worst-hit community was Konkoso, where 21 deaths have so far been confirmed.

The attackers were also reported to have struck nearby villages, including Pissa, Zango and Tungan Maƙeri, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake as houses and shops were set alight.

At the time of filing this report, the gunmen were still operating in the area, with residents living in fear and many fleeing their homes.

There has been no official statement yet from the Nigeria Police Force or the Niger State government regarding the latest attacks.

Banditry and insurgent violence have long plagued parts of north-central and northwestern Nigeria, with security agencies stepping up operations against criminal groups, including those linked to Boko Haram.
