Suspected Herdsmen Kill Labour Party Chairman In Benue | Daily Report Nigeria

 

A devastating attack attributed to suspected herdsmen has claimed the life of Mr. Sunday Oche, the Labour Party Chairman for Igumale Ward 1 in Ado Local Government Area of Benue State.

The incident occurred on Tuesday at approximately 4:30 PM while Oche was returning from his cassava farm with five others.

The group was ambushed by armed herders, who flagged them down and immediately shot Oche, who died at the scene.

The other five persons attempted to escape but sustained serious injuries in the process. They abandoned their motorbikes and managed to flee the scene.

Local youths who arrived later found Oche’s body, but the attackers had already fled.

Tersoo Orbunde, the Benue State Labour Party Publicity Secretary, confirmed the tragic incident, stating, “He is a Ward Chairman from Igumale, Sunday Oche. He went to his cassava farm and he was attacked and killed. Our people have gone there to console the family, and we are waiting for them to arrange for his burial.”

The matter has been reported to the police for further action. Oche’s burial is scheduled for Thursday, September 5, 2024, while the injured individuals have been taken to the hospital for treatment.
