A man suspected of vandalism has died from electrocution while allegedly trying to steal armored cables from an underground electrical installation at the Jigawa State Secretariat New Complex in Dutse.
The incident, which occurred at approximately 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, was reported by officials from the Ministry of Works, leading to a prompt response by law enforcement.
In a statement confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Jigawa State Police Command, SP Shiisu Adam, said police officers led by the Divisional Police Officer of the Dutse Division discovered the deceased beneath a concrete cover protecting high-voltage power cables.

According to SP Shiisu, “The body, already in a state of decomposition, was evacuated to Dutse General Hospital for further examination.”
Preliminary investigations suggest the individual was electrocuted while tampering with the facility, which houses live electrical infrastructure.
The police strongly condemned the act and issued a public warning about the dangers involved in attempting to vandalize such installations.
“This tragic incident underscores the fatal risks of vandalizing power installations. The public is strongly advised to avoid such unlawful and life-threatening activities,” the command warned.
An investigation is ongoing to determine whether the deceased acted independently or was part of a wider network involved in infrastructure vandalism. In response, security presence has been heightened around critical facilities in Dutse and other parts of Jigawa State.
Authorities are also encouraging members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement agencies.
