Bishop T.D. Jakes, the lead pastor of The Potter’s House, officially handed over the leadership of the congregation to his daughter and son-in-law on Sunday.
Months after having a severe heart attack while preaching at the church, Jakes made the announcement.
The church claimed that although this action had been planned for years, it was only made a few months after a near-tragic event.

“You have been faithful to God, and you have been faithful to me. “And I’m so grateful,” during the Sunday morning service at The Potter’s House, he shared this with the congregation.
Fighting back tears, Jakes announced that his daughter and son-in-law, Pastors Sarah Jakes Roberts and Toure Roberts, will assume leadership in July.
“I’m grateful, I’m honored, as your daughter,” Sarah Jakes Roberts said.
“I’m so happy you’re going to get some rest.”
T.D. Jakes, founder of The Potter’s House in 1996, shared that his hospitalization after experiencing a heart attack while preaching influenced his decision.
“I cannot afford, especially after November, to risk something happening to me and you be sheep without a shepherd,” he added.
