  • Over 3,500 Urhobo youths employed by Tantita, say coordinators

  • UPU leaders accused of misleading FG with false claims

  • Communities vow to defend security outfit against “personal greed”

Coordinators of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited and President Generals of Urhobo communities have dismissed calls by the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) for the federal government to terminate Tantita’s oil pipeline surveillance contract.

In a massive press briefing in Ughelli attended by over 2,000 Tantita employees, the coordinators and community leaders unanimously passed a vote of confidence in the security outfit. They argued that Tantita has engaged more Urhobo youths and communities than any other firm in the region’s history.

“Tantita employs over 3,500 Urhobo indigenes across 88 communities in 16 Urhobo kingdoms, making it the highest employer of labour in Urhobo land,” the statement read.

The leaders noted that every kilometre of pipeline traversing Urhobo territory is being secured 100% by Urhobo indigenes under Tantita’s supervision.

They accused some UPU leaders of misinforming the public and attempting to use the socio-cultural group to pursue “personal greed and interests.”

Communities Reject UPU’s “General Assembly” Claim

The coordinators questioned the authenticity of UPU’s alleged “General Assembly,” asking for evidence of the meeting’s minutes, notice, and date.

“This attempt to divide the Urhobo nation from Tantita is a betrayal of our shared values,” said Chief Ukpebitere, President General of Evwreni Community. “We must rise against this debasement of Urhobo values and continue supporting Tantita for the protection of our national assets.”

The gathering ended with a vote of confidence in Tantita’s management team, including High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, Kestin Pondi, and Dr Paul Bebenimibo.

Mr Godspower Enerho, National President of the Urhobo Youth Council, raised the motion, which was unanimously adopted by the over 2,000 attendees.
