Governor Agbu Kefas has declared free education for primary and secondary schools in Taraba state.

Daily Report Nigeria reports that the free education scheme will commence in all primary and secondary schools in the state starting from the next academic session.

The declaration, according to Kefas, was to deal with the impact of the abolition of fuel subsidy in the country.

The Governor stressed that it was the government’s responsibility to bear the costs and that students should not have to pay a fee.

Kefas said that in addition to fulfilling a campaign promise, the difficulties caused by the abolition of fuel subsidies made this decision imperative.

The decision came just 48 hours after the announcement of the 50 percent reduction in Taraba State University fees to address the country’s current difficulties.

Both declarations were contained in a statement through his spokesman, Emmanuel Bello.
