A man has been handed a life sentence for raping a 13-year-old girl.
Daily Report Nigeria gathers that the man, identified as Bethuel Lesetja Makgetha, a creative teacher was accused of raping one of hjs students, a 13-year-old grade seven pupil in 2019.

It was gathered that Makgetha had deceived the pupil into staying after school under the guise of further teaching her. He proceeded to assault her multiple times in October, 2019.
He reportedly threatened her with academic repercussions if she spoke out.
His crimes came into light when the victim’s mother, a certified virginity tester noticed some changes in her daughter’s body, which she asked her and the girl revealed the truth, which led to Makgetha’s arrest.

Speaking on the incident, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane said;
“Unknown to the learner’s mother, who thought he was helping her daughter by escorting her home, Makgetha’s true intentions were sinister,”
“This sentence reflects the seriousness of the justice system in dealing with cases of gender-based violence and marks the end of the culmination of years of painstaking investigative and prosecutorial work by Sgt Jacky Baloyi and prosecutor Adele Erasmus,” Mjonondwane added.
