Super Eagles star Victor Boniface couldn’t help but amused when he found out that a 15-year-old boy he had gifted football boots sold them for $100 (N153,000).

The young lad received the boots following Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup Qualifier against Rwanda on March 21, 2025, where the Super Eagles celebrated a solid 2-0 win.

Instead of keeping the boots as a cherished keepsake, the boy decided to sell them to a buyer in Rwanda.

A recently released video captures him candidly sharing that he traded the boots for cash, which he then used to buy a bicycle, school uniform, and bags.

Victor Boniface’s Reaction to the Boy Selling His Boots

Upon hearing the news, the Bayern Leverkusen’s forward took to social media to react in a playful manner.

Boniface jokingly requested a 10% share of the sale, expressing surprise at the boy’s decision.

He tweeted:

“Abeg, make Una find this boy for me. Make he drop 10% of the money ooo.”

Boniface further teased that if he had given the boy a jersey instead, he might have sold it as well.

Mixed Reactions from Fans and Social Media Users

The revelation stirred up quite a conversation among football fans, with plenty of people weighing in on whether the boy made the right choice.

A user, @V_O_AKwaIbom, wrote:

“People dey say poor decision… I laugh. In a country where people are struggling to survive? But a wise decision would have been to take a picture with Boniface while receiving the boots and keep them as an investment for the future.”

Meanwhile, @johnjaydee4945 pointed out:

“The Rwandan buyer played a fast one on him. That boot is worth at least $500 in the market.”

Another fan, @idjesanuvie, added:

“I don’t think it was a bad decision at the time. He desperately needed the money. The only mistake was that he didn’t have an adult broker a better deal for him.”

Was Selling Boniface’s Boots a Smart Move?

While some folks think the boy jumped the gun with his decision, others believe that his pressing needs made the sale a reasonable choice.

Given the financial hardships and hunger that many face in Africa, it’s easy to see why he’d prioritize essentials over something sentimental.

However, if he had held onto those boots, they could have gained value, especially if Boniface’s career keeps on rising.

Signed memorabilia from top footballers often turns into collector’s treasures worth a fortune down the line.

Final Thoughts

Victor Boniface’s response to the whole situation shows off his good-natured character, turning what could have been a tough moment into something light-hearted.

Whether the boy made the right choice or not, one thing’s for sure—this story has entertained fans and sparked some lively discussions online.

Would you have sold the boots, or would you have kept them for their potential future worth? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
