Tems, the Grammy-winning Nigerian singer also known as Temilade Openiyi, has opened up about her emotional process in the recording studio, admitting that she often finds herself in tears while laying down tracks.
According to Tems, the reason behind her tears is the deeply personal nature of many of the songs she records, which often touch on intimate aspects of her life.
“I cried while making some of my songs because they’re very personal to me,” she told Billboard in a recent interview.

The talented artist, known for her acclaimed album “For Broken Ears,” revealed that a significant portion of her music originates from spontaneous freestyles, highlighting the organic and raw nature of her creative process.
When discussing her sources of inspiration, Tems emphasized the importance of staying true to herself and drawing from her own experiences and emotions.
“What inspires me most is the season that I am in in life coupled with music that I’ve heard, people that I love; Frank Ocean, Asa, Sade, those are the people that inspired me, and helped me in my creative process.”
