Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, known as Tems, shared that a “serious illness” forced her to delay the release of her debut album.

Tems, who gained international recognition in 2020 after featuring on Wizkid’s hit song “Essence,” revealed in a recent New York Times interview that her debut album was initially set for a 2021 release. However, the illness, which required surgery and a six-month recovery period, led to a postponement.

During her recovery, She released her second extended play, “If Orange Was a Place.” She mentioned that her journey back to health influenced her new music, which focuses on resilience and perseverance.
