A stakeholders’ meeting of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the North-East ended in chaos on Sunday after key party figures openly endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term but pointedly excluded Vice President Kashim Shettima from the equation.
The high-profile gathering, held in Gombe State, was attended by serving ministers, lawmakers, and governors from the region. Also present was the APC National Chairman, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who led a team of top party officials to the event.
But tempers flared when Comrade Mustapha Salihu, the National Vice Chairman (North-East), rose to speak.

In his address, Salihu called for President Tinubu to emerge unopposed in 2027 — but failed to mention Vice President Shettima at all. His silence sparked a storm.
Immediately after Salihu concluded his remarks, several delegates erupted in anger, accusing him of a deliberate slight against the Vice President, an influential son of the region.

The scene quickly degenerated, with verbal assaults flying and threats of physical violence looming.
Salihu had to be whisked out of the venue by security personnel.
Just as the tension was settling, Ganduje stepped up to the podium — and again, in a 10-minute speech, he endorsed Tinubu without mentioning Shettima. That omission poured fuel on the fire.
He too was escorted out by security operatives as murmurs and protests filled the air.
