There is tension in the Super Eagles’ camp as Daniel Amokachi has yet to show up just days before the 2026 World Cup qualifier against South Africa.
Amokachi absence has raised questions about his role as an assistant coach under Finidi George. Sources indicate that Amokachi has rejected the contract offered by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
This situation is compounded by rumors of a rift between Amokachi and Finidi George. Amokachi was one of the assistants announced by the NFF, along with Benjamin James, Olatunji Baruwa, Chima Onyeike, and Mehmet Ozturk. Some suggest that the NFF imposed Amokachi on Finidi.

However, NFF President Ibrahim Gusau has denied these claims. “I was very happy when we unveiled Finidi to Nigeria. The NFF Technical Director selected all the names on the list, and they chose the best they felt would work. All the names you saw as assistants to Finidi were chosen by him,” Gusau said.
