A group of suspected Boko Haram militants launched a pre-dawn raid on a Nigerian military base in Marte, Borno State, leaving multiple casualties and seizing weapons and equipment.
The attack occurred around 3 a.m. on Monday at the 153 Task Force Battalion’s Forward Operating Base (FOB), located in the administrative center of Marte Local Government Area.
Eyewitnesses and security sources reported that the assailants overpowered the troops, setting military vehicles ablaze and looting the armoury.

“ISWAP has taken over Marte. An unspecified number of soldiers were killed, some captured, and many others fled towards Dikwa. They are currently at the 24 Task Force Brigade in Dikwa,” a security source disclosed.
The ambush adds to a recent series of assaults on military formations in northeastern Nigeria, including locations such as Sabon Gari and Buni Yadi, signaling a renewed threat from insurgents operating in the region.
Attempts to reach Major General Markus Kangye, the Director of Defence Media Operations, for an official statement were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to calls or text messages.

Residents of Ikakumo, a community in Akoko Northeast Local Government Area of Ondo State, are living in fear following the death of a herdsman during a violent confrontation with members of a local vigilance group.
The incident, which also left two people injured—including the commander of the vigilante group—has raised concerns among locals about possible retaliatory attacks by herders in the area.
