Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has announced that he is stepping away from the Belgium national team.

Courtois made the announcement in a detailed statement on his Instagram account on Thursday. In the statement, the former Chelsea goalkeeper explained that his decision was due to a lack of trust in Belgium manager Domenico Tedesco.

It has been reported that Courtois and Tedesco had a disagreement over the team’s captaincy. The 32-year-old was also left out of Belgium’s Euro 2024 squad due to an injury.

In his statement, Thibaut Courtois addressed Belgian fans, saying, “I feel privileged to have had the honor of wearing the national jersey. Unfortunately, after the events with the coach and a lot of reflection, I have decided not to return to the Belgian national team under his management. In this matter, I accept my share of responsibility.”
