1. Sylvester Oromoni: Court Grants Five Suspects N1m Bail Each.

Amidst calls for Justice, a Chief Magistrates’ court in Yaba, Lagos, granted five Dowen College students bail after a conspiracy and homicide charge was made against them by the police.

The court granted the students bail in the sum of N1 million each.

The minors had been remanded in a juvenile home since December 9, over the death of their schoolmate, Sylvester Oromoni.

Chief magistrate Olatunbosun Adeola, who heard the bail application, ordered the defendants to produce two sureties each in like sum.

2. Buhari Rejects Electoral Amendment Bill

President Muhammadu Buhari on December 19, declined assent to the 2021 Electoral Act Amendment Bill, explaining that signing it into law would cause trouble among the political parties in the country.

In his letter to the National Assembly, Mr. President indicates that he refused to sign the bill, citing the direct primaries as approved by the National Assembly for picking candidates by political parties in the amended Electoral Act as dangerous to the polity.

He said his decision is based on informed advice by relevant ministries, departments, and agencies of the government, and careful review of the bill in light of the current realities prevalent in the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the circumstances.

According to him: “The amendment as proposed is a violation of the underlying spirit of democracy, which is characterized by freedom of choices of which political party membership is a voluntary exercise of the constitutional right of freedom of association,”

3. Lai Mohammed Lists 100 Achievements Of President Buhari In 2021.

Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information, Culture, and Tourism, listed 100 achievements by President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration for 2021.

According to the minister, the federal government recorded huge progress in the outgoing year even in the face of many economic and political challenges.

Lai reeled out various achievements of the Buhari’s government in 2021 while addressing a press conference on Thursday in Lagos State.

On the list monitored by Daily Report Nigeria, the minister highlighted one hundred (100) major achievements recorded by the Buhari government.

4. Oil Belongs To Niger Delta Not Nigeria – PANDEF Tells Obasanjo

The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) told former President Olusegun Obasanjo that the oil in Nigeria belongs to the Niger Delta people.

This was contained in the body’s reply to Obasanjo on comments that the oil belongs to Nigeria and not the region that produces it.

Obasanjo had in a letter to Edwin Clark said that oil, which is found in the South-South, and other mineral resources in Nigeria belongs to the Federal Government.

Obasanjo also dismissed allegations that he hates the Niger Delta.

5. Queen Naomi Silekunola Announces Divorce From The Ooni of Ife.

The wife to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Olori Naomi Silekunola shocked Nigerians when she announced that she was divorcing the king.

In her Instagram post, the prophetess confirmed the divorce, where she noted that she will no longer be referred to as wife to the Ooni of Ife or as Queen of Ile-Ife but as the Queen of the people and mother of my adorable Prince.”

Naomi explained that she tried her best to make the marriage work, but realized that she had just one assignment which is her son.

6. Church Refuses to Bury Man Who Pledged N1 Million Before Death

Daily Report Ng reported how the church refused to bury a man who pledged to donate N1 million before his death.

According to a Twitter user identified as Felix Nweke, the incident happened in his hometown.

Felix said in the church insisted that the money which the deceased had pledged be redeemed by his family before they can bury him.

7. I Don’t Need Nigerian artistes – Shatta Wale

Popular Ghanaian artiste, Shatta Wale threw shade at Nigerian artists after selling out stadiums for his concert in his country, bragging he doesn’t need Nigerian artists.

Shatta Wale stated this at his concert at Ghana’s biggest stadium, making boast of a filled-up stadium.

His action has generated condemnation from Nigerians.

8. FG Names Groups Behind Terrorism in Nigeria

Babagana Monguno, the National Security Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari, identified Jama’at Nasr al-Islam Wal Muslimin, JNIM, Islamic and Muslim Support Group, and Islamic State in Greater Sahara, ISGS, as organizations behind terrorism in Nigeria and Africa.

Monguno disclosed this while speaking at the 14th Workshop of the League of Ulamas, Preachers and Imams of Sahel countries in Abuja on Tuesday.

9. Soun of Ogbomoso Death

The death of Popular Oyo monarch, Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Oladunni Oyewumi, Aj Agungbade III, was another tragedy that befell the country, Southwest region most especially.

Daily Report Nigeria gathered that the 95-year-old revered monarch died in the early hours of Sunday, December 12, 2021.

 

10. Omicron: UK Bows, Removes Nigeria From Red List

Insecurity: UK Govt Warns Citizens Against Travelling To 12 Nigerian States (See List) | Daily Report Nigeria

After an international outcry, the United Kingdom decided to remove Nigeria and other 10 African countries from its travel red list.

The UK government had placed Nigeria and other African Countries on the travel red list following the discovery of the new COVID-19 variant, Omicron in the affected nations.

The move had triggered condemnations from many Nigerians.

Nigeria’s Government had also vowed to take action if the decision was not reversed.
