Things to Know About Senator Adeleke Ademola, Osun Governor-Elect

The Independent National Electoral Commission on Sunday, declared Senator Ademola Adeleke, the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party as winner of the governorship election in Osun State.

Senator Adeleke defeated his closest opponent and incumbent governor of the state, Gboyega Oyetola of the rulling All Progressive Congress with over wide margin.

  1. Ademola Nurudeen Jackson was born into the Adeleke family of Ede, Osun State

  2. He served as senator for Osun West senatorial district from 2017 to 2019.

  3. Adeleke is popularly known as the Dancing Senator owing to his skills on the floor.

  4. He is father to 5 children, including Nigerian singer, B-Red. He is also uncle to international superstar musician, Davido.

  5. Adeleke attended Methodist Primary School, Surulere Lagos State before relocating finish his primary education at Nawarudeen Primary School, Ikire, in the Old Oyo State.

  6. He completed secondary education at Ede Muslim Grammar School Ede, after starting off from the Seventh Day Adventist Secondary School, Ede. He relocated to the United States shortly after this.

  7. He graduated from the Jacksonville State University, Alabama, United States, majoring in criminal justice. He also minored in political science.

  8. In 2001, Adeleke enrolled at the Atlanta Metropolitan State College to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal over education controversies.

  9. The Dancing Senator kick-started his political career in 2001 together with his deceased brother, Senator Isiaka Adeleke, who passed on in April 2017.

  10. He contested the Osun west by-election in 2017 following the demise of his brother and emerged winner under the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.

  11. Adeleke first contested the Osun state governorship election in 2018 under the PDP, slugging it out with top contenders, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola of APC and Iyiola Omisore of Social Democratic Party.

  12. The election was declared inconclusive INEC and a rerun slated was conducted on 27 September 2018. APC’s Oyetola was declared winner after the run-off, a result Adeleke described as a “coup”.

  13. Adeleke was declared winner of the election by a tribunal on 22 March 2019 in Abuja. However, the Supreme Court went on to affirm Gboyega Oyetola as the authentic winner of the 2018 Osun State governorship election on Friday, 5 July 2019.

  14. Senator Adeleke again contested the Osun state governorship election in 2022 and was declared winner by INEC with a total of 403, 371 votes over Gboyega Oyetola, who polled 375, 027 votes.
