He has vehemently denied all the charges and is scheduled to appear again at the Old Bailey on September 2.
Despite the legal cloud hanging over him, the former Arsenal star’s switch from the Premier League to La Liga has stirred major attention.
Villarreal, in their official statement, emphasized their belief in the fundamental principle of the presumption of innocence and reaffirmed Partey’s firm denial of all claims, adding that they “await the judiciary’s decision, which will be responsible for clarifying the facts alleged against him.
Partey left Arsenal at the end of June after his contract expired, drawing the curtain on a four-year spell in north London.
He initially joined the Gunners from Atlético Madrid in October 2020 for a fee of £45 million.
During his time at Arsenal, he played 167 matches, scoring nine goals.
Last season alone, he featured 52 times and netted four goals across all competitions.
The experienced midfielder also brings international pedigree, having made 51 appearances for the Ghana national team.
Villarreal, who finished fifth in La Liga last season to secure Champions League football, are banking on Partey’s experience to boost their midfield.
