Elon Musk-owned company, X Corps has threatened to sue Meta, formerly known as Facebook for plagiarism in the newly launched Threads app.

Everything in Threads reportedly resembles Musk’s Twitter, from the heart-shaped icon used to like posts to the arrow circles that indicated the repost function.

Twitter further claimed that Meta hired a former Twitter employee to develop this new platform.

Shortly after Threads launched on July 5 Twitter attorney Alex Spiro wrote to Meta Chief Executive Officer, CEO Mark Zuckerberg accusing him of illegally diverting trade secrets and other intellectual property from Twitter.

The letter, which was circulated online, underscored Twitter’s intention to strictly protect its intellectual property rights and calls on Meta to stop using Twitter’s trade secrets and sensitive information.

According to Spiro, Meta hired some former Twitter employees who had access to Twitter’s trade secrets and sensitive information.

Those employees were tasked with developing copycat apps that used Twitter’s trade secrets and intellectual property to facilitate the development of Meta’s competing apps, according to the letter.

The conduct allegedly violated both state and federal law, as well as employees’ ongoing obligations to Twitter.

Although Elon Musk has been quiet about Threads’ launch, Twitter’s CEO, Linda Yaccarino was confident that Twitter’s community can’t be copied.
