There are currently three candidates being considered to replace Finidi George as the head coach of the Super Eagles.
Finidi George recently resigned from his position, prompting the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to seek a replacement quickly, with upcoming fixtures scheduled for September.
According to Soccernet, the NFF is looking at three coaches for the job. First is Antonio Conceicao, who is known for his tactical skills and player development from his previous coaching stints in Romania, Cyprus, and Saudi Arabia, despite being fired by Cameroon in 2022. He’s eager to return to coaching.

Another candidate is Samson Siasia, whose potential selection could stir controversy due to his impressive coaching record with Nigeria’s U-20 and U-23 teams, where he achieved podium finishes in various tournaments, including the Olympics. His FIFA ban for match-fixing is expected to end in August, making him eligible for the Eagles role. Siasia has previously managed the senior team on two occasions.
The third candidate is Salisu Yusuf, who has had success winning NPFL titles with Kano Pillars. Despite controversy surrounding a cash gift, Yusuf’s experience as Assistant Coach of the Super Eagles and Head Coach of the Super Eagles B team demonstrates his deep understanding of Nigerian football and player development. The NFF has reinstated Yusuf, indicating their confidence in his abilities.
