President Bola Tinubu has agreed to release his university certificate to the presidential of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar.

Daily Report Nigeria reports that Tinubu pleaded with a United States’ federal judge to block every other details, particularly his gender and admission records from being disclosed.

The decision follows the ongoing legal battle at the District Court in Northern District of Illinois in Chicago.

Atiku had initiated the case over allegations that Tinubu was ineligible to contest the 2023 presidential election because he did not have the required educational qualifications.

Tinubu filed for the court to not release his certificate as a magistrate judge ordered the Chicago State University to provide the document to Abubakar.

The President cited severe harm to his life and obtained a stay of the magistrate judge’s order.

However, in a statement on Monday, Tinubu’s legal team said they had agreed to release the certificate in order to prevent “further delays” in the case. They also requested for the judge to block all other details from being disclosed.

“There is harm in allowing discovery on issues and documents outside the diploma,” Tinubu’s lawyers said in their full briefing to the court.

The identity of who was admitted into Chicago State University in the 1970s has been an issue after college transcripts emerged that indicated the school admitted a female Bola Tinubu from Southwest College Chicago in 1977.

Atiku alleged that Tinubu forged his certificate, while Tinubu insists he graduated and got a certificate from the university.
