Tinubu Appoints New Financial Intelligence Unit Boss | Daily Report Nigeria

President Bola Tinubu has endorsed the appointment of Ms Hafsat Abubakar Bakari as the Director/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), subject to confirmation by the Senate.

Bakari’s appointment was contained in a statement on Tuesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.

As a seasoned lawyer and financial intelligence expert, she boasts extensive experience in anti-money laundering, counter-terrorism financing, and counter-proliferation financing (AML/CFT/CPF).

Before assuming her role as the NFIU’s CEO, she held positions such as Deputy Director at the NFIU.

The New NFIU Boss also served as the Head of the General Services Unit, Head of the Strategy and Reorientation Unit, and Head of the Board Secretariat at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The President expects that Bakare will leverage her wealth of expertise to effectively fulfill the crucial role, particularly in light of the administration’s efforts to combat illicit financial flows and other unscrupulous practices prevalent in certain segments of the nation’s foreign exchange markets.
