President Bola Tinubu has approved a N1 trillion loan for the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to expedite projects in the Niger Delta region.

This move is expected to accelerate development in the region and address the concerns of stakeholders.

According to Tinubu, “We are committed to the development of the Niger Delta region. This loan will ensure that the NDDC has the necessary funds to complete projects on time.”

The approval of the loan was made possible through the efforts of the NDDC leadership, under Chairman Chiedu Ebie and Managing Director Dr. Samuel Ogbuku.

Stakeholders at the 2024 Niger Delta Stakeholders Summit had requested additional funding to hasten development.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan, the summit’s chairman, emphasized the need for the region to transition from hydrocarbon dependence and advocated for development through education, skills acquisition, industrialization, and agriculture.
