President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of the National Tax Policy Implementation Committee (NTPIC), a key body designed to steer the rollout of the administration’s major tax reforms. The announcement was made in Abuja by the Presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the Presidency, the committee will be chaired by Joseph Tegbe, a Fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria. Tegbe, a former Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, brings over 35 years of professional experience to the role. The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, will oversee the committee’s work.
The President said the committee would engage in wide consultations across the public and private sectors to ensure inclusive input as the new tax laws take effect.
He emphasised that effective implementation of the new Tax Acts is central to his administration’s economic transformation agenda and the strengthening of public finance systems.

Tinubu noted that the reforms reflect the government’s commitment to establishing a fair, transparent and technology-driven tax structure that supports growth while safeguarding the interests of citizens and businesses.
The NTPIC is also tasked with leading stakeholder engagements, public sensitisation efforts and ensuring alignment among revenue and regulatory agencies. The committee will promote strong inter-agency coordination, harmonise existing frameworks and ensure unified reporting throughout the transition period.
Other members include Special Adviser to the President on Finance and Economy, Mrs Sanyade Okoli, who will serve as Secretary; as well as Ismaeel Ahmed and Rukaiya El-Rufai. The committee draws expertise from professionals in tax administration, finance, law, the private sector and civil society.
Tegbe assured that the team would work diligently to ensure seamless implementation of the tax laws, noting the strategic importance of the reforms. Edun added that the committee represents a major step in repositioning Nigeria’s fiscal framework for inclusive economic growth.
