The President’s condolence message was conveyed through a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
In the message, Tinubu described the late matriarch as a remarkable mother whose life and values helped shape a family that has contributed meaningfully to society.
He noted that her legacy would remain admirable, particularly through the children and grandchildren she raised.
Addressing the former governor personally, the President acknowledged the deep emotional pain that comes with losing a mother.
“Nasir, please accept my heartfelt condolences on the passing of your beloved mother, Hajiya Umma, which happened today in Cairo,” Tinubu said.
“As someone who had also lost an old mother, I share in your grief. I understand the depth of your loss.”
Tinubu further stated that the loss of a mother is one of life’s most painful experiences, adding that no words could fully ease such sorrow.
He expressed hope that the memories of her love, wisdom, and guidance would bring comfort to El-Rufai and his family during this difficult period.
The President also prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased, expressing hope that her good deeds would earn her eternal rest in Aljannah Firdaus.
“As firm believers in Allah, we are convinced that she has played her part in this world as laid out for her by the Almighty and has gone back to her maker,” Tinubu added.
“I join family, friends, and well-wishers in mourning with you. May Allah grant your dear mother Aljannah Firdaus.”
The condolence message comes at a time when El-Rufai is currently being investigated by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over alleged financial misappropriation during his tenure as governor of Kaduna State between 2015 and 2023.
The former governor has reportedly been in ICPC custody since February 18, 2026.
Before his detention, he was also questioned by the Department of State Services (DSS) regarding his allegation that the phone of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, had been tapped.
