President Bola Tinubu has approved a 76 per cent reduction in the cost of kidney dialysis across federal hospitals in Nigeria.
The new policy, confirmed in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, lowers the price of a single dialysis session from an average of ₦50,000 to ₦12,000.
Bwala said the move is expected to provide immediate financial relief to thousands of Nigerians living with kidney disease, which often requires multiple treatment sessions each week.
The subsidy is already active in ten federal medical centres and teaching hospitals across all six geopolitical zones, including the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Ebute-Metta, Lagos; FMC, Jabi, Abuja; University College Hospital, Ibadan; FMC, Owerri; University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital; FMC, Abeokuta; Lagos University Teaching Hospital; FMC, Azare; University of Benin Teaching Hospital; and University of Calabar Teaching Hospital.

Additional federal medical centres and teaching hospitals will be included before the end of the year to widen nationwide access.
Bwala recalled that last year, President Tinubu also approved free cesarean sections in federal hospitals to boost maternal healthcare and reduce preventable deaths.
He emphasised that these measures reflect the president’s Renewed Hope Agenda to ensure Nigerians are not denied healthcare due to cost.
