Tinubu Departs Nigeria for Historic State Visit to United Kingdom

Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has departed Abuja for a historic state visit to the United Kingdom, following an invitation from King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

President Tinubu left Nigeria on Tuesday morning alongside the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, marking a significant diplomatic engagement between both countries.

The visit is notable as the first state visit by a Nigerian head of state to the UK in 37 years, and is expected to strengthen bilateral relations across key sectors.

During the visit, the British monarch will host President Tinubu at Windsor Castle from Wednesday to Thursday.

As part of the programme, the Royal Family will showcase a special exhibition from the Royal Collection highlighting items connected to Nigeria.

President Tinubu is also scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at 10 Downing Street.

The discussions are expected to focus on strengthening cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, defence, immigration, and cultural exchange.

The meeting is set to conclude with the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between both countries.

As part of the state visit, King Charles III and President Tinubu will also engage with organisations promoting interfaith dialogue at both national and international levels.

The visit will culminate in a State Banquet hosted in honour of the Nigerian delegation.
