‘Tinubu Didn’t Remove Fuel Subsidy’ – Former Speaker

'Tinubu Didn't Remove Fuel Subsidy' - Former Speaker | Daily Report Nigeria

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara has come out to say that President Bola Tinubu didn’t remove the fuel subsidy.

Dogara made this statement on Friday’s edition of Sunrise Daily on Channels Television despite Tinubu’s announcement that the “subsidy is gone.”

According to him, the subsidy was already removed before Tinubu’s election, and that there was no provision for it in the budget.

He also stressed that the president’s announcement was simply a statement of fact, and not an introduction of a new policy.

This clarification comes months after Tinubu’s inaugural address on May 29 where he declared an end to the fuel subsidy regime.

He said:

We must accept whether we like it or not unless we are being disingenuous. Whether the President said the subsidy was gone or he was removing the subsidy, we all know that subsidy had been removed before he was elected.”
