  • Amid questions over his absence, President maintains grip on governance, says Onanuga

In a development that continues to stir debate across the political landscape, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is said to be actively steering the affairs of Nigeria from Europe, with the Presidency confirming on Thursday that he has moved from Paris to London as part of a short, working visit abroad.

While critics question the optics of a President abroad during mounting domestic challenges, the Presidency insists that Tinubu remains firmly in control of governance.

A statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, sought to quell public speculation, stressing that Tinubu’s absence is temporary and without consequence to the day-to-day administration of the country.

“The President left Paris for London at the weekend and has maintained constant communication with key government officials, overseeing critical national matters, including directives to security chiefs to address emerging threats in some parts of the country,” Onanuga disclosed.

He further assured Nigerians that there has been no vacuum in leadership, highlighting Tinubu’s sustained engagement with top officials across vital sectors.

“The President’s commitment to his duties remains unwavering, and his administration continues to function effectively under his leadership. We appreciate the public’s concern and assure all Nigerians that governance proceeds without interruption,” the statement read.

Onanuga also noted that Tinubu is expected back in Abuja after the Easter holidays, and will resume full physical presence at the Aso Rock Villa.

This development comes at a time when national security concerns are once again in the spotlight, prompting fresh scrutiny of how power is exercised in the digital age—and whether remote governance meets the expectations of an increasingly anxious populace.
