The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has effectively given Ndigbo the Biafra they have long sought, citing what he described as unprecedented political inclusion and federal attention to the South-East.

Speaking in his New Year message, Umahi said the Tinubu administration has reopened the South-East’s place in Nigeria’s national life after decades of neglect.

According to the former Ebonyi State governor, the current administration’s economic reforms and inclusive governance signal that the nation’s most difficult period is over, with a turnaround expected across key sectors in the coming year.

Umahi urged the people of the South-East to remain firm in their support for Tinubu, describing the President as a “consolation to Ndigbo” after years of marginalisation.

He expressed confidence that the region would correct what he called the mistake of the 2023 general election by delivering overwhelming support for Tinubu in 2027.

“Our people will not repeat the mistake of 2023. We shall stand firmly behind President Tinubu in 2027. Once he is on the ballot, all South-East governors are on the ballot, and I am also on the ballot,” Umahi said.

He warned against politicians who, in his words, use “sugar-coated promises” to mislead the region, insisting that Tinubu has already addressed what he described as “criminal marginalisation” of Ndigbo.

Umahi added that the agitation for Biafra should now give way to national integration, stressing that the true Biafra Ndigbo seek has arrived through acceptance and equal participation in national development.

“The Biafra our people fought for has come through inclusion, recognition, and investment in our future. Indeed, the Biafra is here,” he said.

On infrastructure, the minister assured Nigerians that federal road projects across the country are being properly funded and supervised, with many expected to be completed in record time.

He also announced plans to establish a special task force to stop trucks from parking on federal highways, saying the ministry would work closely with security agencies to ensure safer roads, especially during post-festive travel.
