Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum, Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has fulfilled the promises he made to northern Nigeria during the 2023 presidential campaign.

Speaking at the 2-day interactive session on government-citizens engagement organised by the Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation in Kaduna, Yahaya emphasized that Tinubu’s administration has not only sustained projects inherited from his predecessor but also initiated strategic ones aimed at transforming the northern region.

“When Tinubu stood before us in 2023, he made specific commitments. Today, despite national challenges, he has delivered meaningful results,” Yahaya said.

He highlighted key infrastructure efforts including the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Expressway, Kano-Katsina-Maradi Rail Line, Kaduna Refinery rehabilitation, Kolmani oil drilling, and the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway. These, he said, signal “visible progress” that aligns with the region’s expectations under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

On security, Yahaya credited the administration for eliminating over 300 bandit and terrorist commanders, stressing that intelligence-driven operations have weakened criminal networks.

He also praised economic reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidies and floating of the naira, acknowledging their painful impact but defending them as necessary for long-term stability.

“Though painful, the reforms are real steps towards a stronger economy. The evidence of progress is clear and we must reward performance in 2027,” Yahaya added.

He cited the creation of the Ministry of Livestock Development as a landmark policy tailored to address long-standing issues affecting the North’s pastoral communities.

Governor Yahaya called on traditional rulers, state governments, business leaders, and civil society to work with the federal government to consolidate gains and deepen national unity, asserting that the North-South-West alliance under Tinubu is a stabilising force.
