The Federal Government has dismissed claims that President Bola Tinubu is being controlled by a cabal, with Minister Mohammed Idris insisting Tinubu makes independent decisions in Nigeria’s best interest.

Idris outlined progress under Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, highlighting reforms such as fuel subsidy removal, new infrastructure projects, and a nationwide fibre-optic rollout to boost the digital economy.
The Federal Government has strongly denied suggestions that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is being controlled by a cabal within his administration. Speaking in Abuja on Thursday at the APC National Summit themed “Renewed Hope Agenda: The Journey So Far,” the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, stated that President Tinubu is fully in charge of his government.
“You need to study the president very well. You can have your voice; you can say what you want to say; he will listen to you, but his decision is ultimately his own. I think it’s important for us to recognise that,” Idris said.
Highlighting the president’s direction under the Renewed Hope Agenda, Idris described the blueprint as people-focused and transformative.

He credited Tinubu with taking immediate and bold steps on assuming office, such as removing petrol and foreign exchange subsidies, which had long burdened Nigeria’s economy.
“True leadership involves the ability to make decisions that might be tough in the short term, but are guaranteed to deliver lasting returns,” he emphasised.
The minister noted that increased revenues from these reforms are now fuelling massive infrastructure development, including four signature highways and the Kano-Kaduna Standard Gauge Railway.
He also highlighted the deployment of 90,000km of fibre-optic cables, calling it an “unprecedented scale of broadband infrastructure” that will support digital growth and smart governance.

On security, he disclosed that the military had neutralised thousands of threats and rescued nearly 10,000 hostages. The administration has also acquired over 25 new aircraft and commissioned four naval vessels.
He added by citing other major initiatives, including the creation of the Ministry of Livestock Development and six Regional Development Commissions, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to holistic and inclusive national development.
