Tinubu Meets Bill Gates Tech For Transparency in Governance

President Bola Tinubu met with Bill Gates, Microsoft founder and philanthropist, and discussed leveraging technology to enhance transparency and accountability in governance.

Speaking at the World Economic Forum Special Meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Tinubu stated that technology can combat fraud, corruption, and irregularities.

He shared his experience as governor of Lagos State, where he utilized technology to boost revenue and create an efficient tax system.

Technology is the enemy of fraud, corruption, and irregularity. We have been working hard on improving technology.

“There is always the initial resistance. Corruption, self-interest, and fraudulent activity will always be an enemy, but when you bend that curve, you will receive the benefit. The nation will receive the benefit.”

Bill Gates introduced a one-identity technological platform that integrates various data, highlighting the importance of data harmonization for planning, security, and tax efficiency.

He also discussed supporting Nigeria’s digitization efforts, including the MOSIP ID system, which can enhance payment efficiency, financial inclusion, and tax collection.

Gates acknowledged Nigeria’s talented youth and their capacity to manage such technological systems.

Furthermore, Gates mentioned high-yield seeds and crops with potential for improved productivity and nutrition, which have been successfully used in countries like the US and Brazil.

The President mentioned interest in exploring the opportunities and praised Nigeria’s youth for their enthusiasm and creativity with technology, which motivates the government to continue reform efforts for their future prosperity.
