He highlighted that existing commissions have already contributed to regional road development and that similar interventions are anticipated as the newer commissions become fully operational. “The commissions will collaborate with state governments to address insecurity in their regions. They are not the chief executives, but they complement the work of other levels of government,” Momoh stated.

The minister cited ongoing state-led projects on federal highways as examples of proactive cooperation. These include the repair of a 10-kilometre stretch on the Benin-Warri Road in Delta State and the Sapele-Ogorode corridor in Edo State. He noted that neglect over the years has left many roads in poor condition, with FERMA underperforming for nearly a decade.

Momoh also outlined the commissions’ four-phase master plan aimed at linking economic clusters across regions. Phase one focused on security, phase two on sustainability, and the current phase prioritizes infrastructure to enhance market access and promote community development.

When asked about funding delays for some newly established commissions, the minister confirmed that this was a key topic in the meeting with President Tinubu.
