According to the statement, the appointment of Ismail Abba Yusuf as NAHCON Chairman is in line with the provisions of Section 3(2) of the NAHCON Act, 2026, which requires Senate confirmation before the nominee can assume office.

Speaking on the development, the Presidency said the move reflects President Tinubu’s commitment to ensuring effective leadership and better coordination of Hajj activities for Nigerian pilgrims.

“The nomination of Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf is subject to confirmation by the Senate, in accordance with the provisions of Section 3(2) of the NAHCON Act, 2026,” the statement read.

NAHCON plays a critical role in managing Nigeria’s participation in the annual Hajj pilgrimage, including liaising with Saudi authorities, overseeing logistics, and safeguarding the welfare of Nigerian pilgrims.

If confirmed by the Senate, Yusuf is expected to bring renewed focus and administrative efficiency to the commission at a time when Hajj operations are becoming more complex and closely scrutinised.
