The Federal Government has reacted to the planned alliance between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, stating that President Bola Tinubu is not losing sleep over the potential collaboration.

Atiku, who contested the presidency in 2023 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but lost, recently met with Obi, who ran as a presidential candidate on the Labour Party (LP) ticket and came third in the election.

Their meeting sparked speculation about a possible coalition for the 2027 general elections.

In an interview, Atiku stated that if the PDP decides in 2027 that it’s the South-East’s turn to field the presidential candidate and selects Obi, he would readily offer his support.

He also mentioned that a merger between the PDP and LP is possible, and his recent meeting with Obi might indicate a possible alliance leading up to the 2027 general elections.

However, the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris dismissed the planned alliance, saying the Federal Government is not worried about the potential collaboration.

According to Idris, anybody can decide to collaborate and meet, but the question is what happens after the talk and numerous meetings.

He stressed that President Tinubu’s works would speak for him in the next election cycle in 2027.

The minister said:

The government is not thinking about them at all. We are focused on delivering on the mandate handed over to President Bola Tinubu. With the good works the government is doing, he is already the toast of Nigerians.”
