President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, to relocate to Kebbi State following the abduction of 25 schoolgirls earlier this week.
The directive was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, Matawalle is expected to remain in Kebbi and coordinate on-ground security operations aimed at rescuing the abducted students.

Gunmen had stormed the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, in the early hours of Monday, seizing 25 students during the attack.
Matawalle, a former governor of Zamfara State, is no stranger to mass kidnapping incidents. During his tenure in 2021, 279 female students were abducted from a secondary school in Jangebe before they were eventually released.
The Defence Minister is scheduled to arrive in Birnin Kebbi on Friday, where he will receive direct security briefings and lead efforts to locate and free the schoolgirls.
President Tinubu has also postponed his planned trip to Johannesburg, South Africa, and Luanda, Angola, to monitor national security developments, including the Kwara church attack that left worshippers dead and dozens abducted.
The recent spike in coordinated attacks across the country has renewed calls for heightened federal action and strengthened security architecture.
