Tinubu Orders Payment of Outstanding Electricity Bill In Presidential Villa

President Bola Tinubu has issued a prompt directive for the immediate settlement of the outstanding electricity bill owed to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).

Tinubu’s directive comes in the wake of a thorough reconciliation of accounts between the State House Management and AEDC.

Contrary to the AEDC’s initial claim of a N923 million debt, as stated in a paid advertorial in newspapers, the actual outstanding bill for the State House stands at N342,352,217.46.

The above information was conveyed in a letter from the AEDC management to the State House Permanent Secretary, dated February 14, 2024.

With both parties satisfied by the reconciliation process, the Chief of Staff to the President, Rt Hon Femi Gbajabiamila, has assured that the debt will be settled with AEDC before the end of this week.

In a move to set an example, the Gbajabiamila has also encouraged other Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to similarly reconcile their accounts with AEDC and promptly pay their electricity bills.

The President had faced widespread criticism from Nigerians after the AEDC published the outstanding bill in a national daily.
