President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that poverty will not define Nigeria’s destiny, assuring citizens that the country will rise above its current economic challenges.
Speaking on Wednesday in Abuja at the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) Conference, the President said that while the path of reform may be difficult, his administration’s policies are designed to stabilise and transform the economy for lasting growth.

“We may be poor; poverty is not going to be our milestone. We are going to come out of it,” Tinubu said.
He emphasised that the economic reforms undertaken since his inauguration — including subsidy removal and exchange rate unification — were bold measures aimed at ending inefficiency and corruption.
The President urged Nigerians to remain patient, noting that the results of these reforms will soon reflect in improved living conditions and stronger economic fundamentals.
“Our reforms are not for comfort today but for stability tomorrow. Every sector, including the media, has a vital role in rebuilding confidence and national unity,” he added.

Tinubu called on the media to report with knowledge, fairness, and responsibility, stressing that nation-building requires partnership, not division.
The conference, which brought together hundreds of editors, journalists, and communication experts, focused on strengthening democratic governance through responsible journalism and public accountability.
