President Bola Ahmed Tinubu celebrated Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, after they won the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

He gave each player $100,000, a three-bedroom flat, and the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) national award.

Coaches and technical staff each pocketed $50,000, received matching apartments, and earned the same OON honour.
At a lively reception in Abuja’s State House Banquet Hall, Vice President Kashim Shettima presented the awards.
He praised D’Tigress for “bringing pride to Nigeria” and bolstering our standing in African basketball.
The event drew First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, Mrs. Nana Shettima, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, and key legislators.
The honour mirrors that of the Super Falcons after they lifted their 10th WAFCON title.
D’Tigress beat Mali 78–64 at Treichville’s Palais des Sports to clinch their fifth straight AfroBasket title and seventh overall.
Since 2017, they’ve cemented Nigeria’s dominance on the court.
