Buhari to be buried Tuesday in Daura, Katsina State
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the formation of an Inter-Ministerial Committee to coordinate a state burial for former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday in London after a prolonged illness.
The committee, chaired by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, is tasked with planning and executing all protocols for what the presidency described as a befitting state funeral for the late Nigerian leader.
In a statement on Monday, Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations in the SGF’s office, said the decision underscores Tinubu’s commitment to honouring Buhari’s legacy and ensuring the burial reflects the dignity of the Nigerian state.

As part of the tributes, President Tinubu directed all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to open condolence registers at their entrances for members of the public.
A central condolence register will also be available for the diplomatic community and general public at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.
Buhari, who ruled Nigeria as military head of state from 1984 to 1985 and later as a two-term elected president from 2015 to 2023, will be buried on Tuesday in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State.
President Tinubu earlier declared a seven-day period of national mourning and directed that flags be flown at half-mast nationwide. He also approved Tuesday, July 15, as a public holiday to honour the late president.
