President Tinubu spoke with Anthony Joshua via telephone on Monday to convey his condolences over the tragic accident that occurred along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.
In a statement released by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, the President said he also checked on Joshua’s health and offered prayers for his recovery.

“I spoke with AJ on the phone to personally convey my condolences over the death of his two associates. I wished him well and prayed for him. He assured me that he is receiving the best care in the hospital,” Tinubu said.
The President added that he also contacted Joshua’s mother to express sympathy, describing her response as deeply appreciative. Tinubu further disclosed that he spoke with Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, who was physically present at the hospital attending to the boxer and other victims.
Earlier, President Tinubu, who is currently outside the country, had expressed sympathy in a public message, praising Joshua’s character and national contribution.

“As a sportsman, you have always shown courage, discipline, and unwavering love for our country. These are qualities that have made you a source of national pride,” Tinubu said.
Meanwhile, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu confirmed that Joshua and another injured passenger were immediately transferred to a specialised medical facility in Lagos. He noted that doctors had declared both patients stable and not in need of emergency intervention.
“Anthony Joshua is conscious, responding well, and in communication with his family,” Sanwo-Olu stated.
The governor added that a joint effort between Lagos and Ogun States was ongoing to ensure adequate medical care and to fully investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
“Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash have already commenced,” he said.
Authorities have appealed for privacy for Joshua and the affected families as medical teams continue close monitoring.
