Tinubu, Suspended Gov. Fubara Hold London Talks Amid Rivers Political Crisis

• President Tinubu held a private meeting in London with suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, following his stop in Paris.

• The meeting was initiated by Fubara, who is seeking reinstatement after the state of emergency declared in Rivers.

• Dubara reportedly agreed to make compromises and is considering joining the ruling APC to secure political backing.

President Bola Tinubu has met with suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, in London as part of efforts to resolve the lingering political crisis in the state, The Africa Report has confirmed.

The closed-door meeting occurred last week after Tinubu’s visit to Paris and was reportedly initiated by Fubara. The embattled governor is said to be seeking a return to office following the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State.

During the talks, Fubara pledged to make “some compromises,” according to a presidential adviser who spoke anonymously. “Negotiations are ongoing, but from all indications, his suspension will be lifted before the six-month deadline,” the source said.

Another aide disclosed that Fubara is considering switching to the All Progressives Congress (APC) to align with Tinubu and gain political protection. “If Fubara joins the APC, it means the president’s chances of winning Rivers State are much higher,” the aide added.

Conspicuously absent from the London meeting was former Governor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, who is said to be uneasy with the unfolding events.

A reconciliation meeting involving Tinubu, Fubara, Wike, and the Rivers State lawmakers is reportedly in the works to find a lasting solution.
