President Bola Tinubu has welcomed the release of the 24 schoolgirls abducted by terrorists from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State.

The girls were seized at dawn on November 17, shortly after a military detachment left the school premises — an attack that sparked copycat kidnappings in Eruku, Kwara State, and Papiri, Niger State. All 38 abducted victims in Eruku were rescued on Sunday, while the Niger State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria confirmed that 50 missing Catholic school students were traced back to their parents’ homes.

Reacting through his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu praised security operatives for securing the freedom of all the rescued victims. He urged them to intensify efforts to locate and free the remaining students still held by terrorists.

“I am relieved that all the 24 girls have been accounted for. We must urgently deploy more boots on the ground in vulnerable areas to avert further incidents of kidnapping,” Tinubu said.

The President added that his administration will provide all necessary support to security agencies to ensure that communities across the affected states remain protected.
