Starting September 1, 2025, every woman entered in the Championships must provide a cheek swab or blood sample to detect the SRY gene on the Y chromosome.

World Athletics President Sebastian Coe says the test ensures fair competition.
“To compete in the female category, you have to be biologically female. Gender cannot trump biology,” – Coe said, noting that member federations fully back the change.
The Gender Diverse Athlete Working Group designed this rule to merge all transgender and DSD guidelines into one clear eligibility standard.
