Top Matches in Europe as Football Season Resumes This Weekend

The wait is finally over as league football in Europe is back with a bigger excitement. Players leaving their clubs to another and clubs strengthening their squad depth, and getting ready for the new season.

Major Leagues kick-started on August 13, 2021, while others are yet to start. Below is a breakdown of some fierce matches across Europe.

ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE

Brentford vs Arsenal;

The newly-promoted side after 27 years out of top-flight football welcomes the Gunners of Arsenal on August 13, 2021.

Leeds vs Man-United;

It is one of the fiercest rivalries in the world of football, known as the ‘The Roses derby.’

Leeds United will be on the lookout to avoid a repeat of last season’s encounter that Man United were emphatic winners at Old Trafford with a 6-2 storyline.

However, Manchester United who recently acquired the services of Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane from Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid respectively will want to make an impression.

GERMAN BUNDESLIGA

Borussia Mönchengladbach vs Bayern Munchen;

The Champions in defense of their title will travel to Monchengladbach to face a resilient side, hoping to begin the Nagelsmann era with a win; unfortunately, it ended in a score draw.

Borussia Dortmund vs Eintracht Frankfurt;

Following Bayern’s draw, Dortmund will be geared to lead the Bundesliga table with a win over Frankfurt. Dortmund has failed to beat Frankfurt in the last four encounters, will give their 100 percent to avoid a repeat of the unwanted stat.

FRENCH LIGUE 1

Lorient vs Monaco;

In the opening match of the season, Monaco suffered a 1:0 loss to the Lorient side that proved to be too strong for the former Champions.

Lille vs Nice;

In defense of their title, Lille will hope to mark the opening match of the season with a win over Nice.

Paris SG vs Strasbourg;

With the recent acquisition of Lionel Messi, Le Parisiens look to destroy teams in the Ligue 1, following a disappointing campaign last season, where they surrendered their crown to Lille.

SPANISH LA LIGA

Teams in Spain will relish the absence of Messi who torments them in matches. Barcelona let go of the best player in the world and their rival Real Madrid allowed the departures of Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane.

Alaves vs Real Madrid;

The Los Blancos under their new manager, Carlo Ancelotti hoped to put aside their disastrous campaign last season, which saw them lose the title to their fierce rival and neighbor Atletico Madrid on the final day of the season.

It is Carlo’s second spell at the Bernabeu after he guided them to a Champions League triumph In 2014, before being sacked the following season. Alaves’s encounter will be an opportunity for the Los Blancos to make a statement.
