A tragic accident claimed the life of a female student and left another critically injured on Friday along the newly renovated Ikangba/Agoro road in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.
The students, who attend Seico Secondary School in Ikangba, were reportedly on their way home after completing their West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) when the unfortunate incident occurred.
According to eyewitnesses, the truck, which was coming from the Molipa end of the road, lost control and rammed into the students walking in the opposite direction.

The vehicle eventually crashed into the fence of a nearby Redeemed Christian Church of God.
Eko Nicholas, a local resident and the Ogun State Chairman of the Campaign for Democratic and Workers Rights, witnessed the aftermath and expressed deep concern over the recurring tragedies on that road.
“The students were obviously those writing this ongoing WASSCE because they were holding the question papers,” Nicholas explained. “One of the students, a female, died on the spot while another female was also critically injured. We are all praying she makes it.”
Nicholas blamed the repeated accidents on the lack of road safety measures. He lamented that from February to date, six lives have been lost along the same road, with many others sustaining injuries.
“This is yet another needless death on the Ikangba/Agoro road,” he said. “We again call on the state government to construct speed breakers and install street lights to prevent these avoidable and painful deaths.”
The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) confirmed the incident through its Public Relations Officer, Babatunde Akinbiyi, who stated that one student had been confirmed dead.
