A devastating tragedy unfolded this week in Ikorodu, Lagos State, when 19-year-old Opesusi Faith Timilehin tragically took her own life after receiving an unsatisfactory score of 190 in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Faith, a native of Abeokuta, Ogun State, had aspirations of studying Microbiology and was disheartened by her result, believing it wasn’t enough to gain her admission.
A close family friend disclosed that Faith had taken the same exam the previous year and had scored better than this year. “She was very disappointed. She kept saying last year’s result was better and that she had no hope again,” the friend explained.

On Monday, after checking her result, Faith ingested a toxic substance, “Push Out,” and was rushed to Kolak Hospital in Odogunyan. She was sadly confirmed dead upon arrival.
In a heartbreaking twist, Faith received an email from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) offering her provisional admission to study Microbiology just 30 minutes after her passing. “The shocking revelation is that she was given an admission message via her Gmail immediately after she was confirmed dead at Kolak Hospital,” a source revealed.
Faith’s untimely death has left her neighborhood in mourning, with many residents describing her as a quiet, humble, and well-behaved young woman. Her grieving parents traveled from Abeokuta to retrieve her body for burial.
Meanwhile, the examination body has come under intense criticism, with sympathizers and neighbors blaming the UTME for contributing to Faith’s emotional distress, citing what they called a mass failure in this year’s results.
