According to an eyewitness, several pupils had gathered in the shop when the tragedy struck.

A resident near the area told newsmen that panic broke out as the children were unexpectedly electrocuted.

“Many pupils were sheltering from the rain inside the shop when two of them, whose bodies were wet, accidentally came in contact with a live metal and were instantly electrocuted. Others narrowly escaped, including some bystanders who were shocked by how suddenly it happened,” the resident recounted.

He added that the shop owner had not opened for business at the time. It took the intervention of security operatives and passers-by who used protective gloves to retrieve the victims’ bodies.
