On Tuesday, a devastating accident occurred near the Abia State Polytechnic in Aba, resulting in the untimely death of a young graduate.

The victim, identified as Ogechi Mary Ezekiel, was awaiting mobilization for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program.

According to eyewitnesses, Ezekiel was crossing the Aba-Owerri road at the polytechnic gate when she was struck by a speeding tricycle.

The impact propelled her into the path of an oncoming truck with the license plate XA 60 YEN.

Law enforcement authorities swiftly apprehended the truck driver, while the tricycle rider managed to flee the scene.

The incident caused traffic congestion as students from the polytechnic gathered on the road.

In their grief and anger, some students attempted to vandalize the truck, but police officers intervened to prevent further violence.

Despite their efforts, they successfully deflated the truck’s tires upon learning the Victim’s demise.

Police patrols and personnel from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have been deployed to the area, and both lanes of the road remain cordoned off.

Motorists traveling out of the city are advised to use alternate routes via Okigwe and Osusu roads.
