Manchester City have wrapped up their first significant deal this summer by bringing in Dutch star Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan.

Reports on Wednesday claim the Premier League powerhouse have agreed to pay €55 million ($63 million) for the 26-year-old midfielder.

Reijnders is set to sign a five-year deal, with just a few details left to sort out.

City are eager to finish this transfer before the FIFA Club World Cup kicks off in the United States on June 14.

Reijnders is viewed as a direct boost for Guardiola’s midfield, especially with some key players either injured or about to leave.

The Dutchman’s arrival comes as Belgian maestro Kevin De Bruyne inches toward a move to Serie A champions Napoli.

De Bruyne won’t join the squad for the Club World Cup.

At the same time, Mateo Kovacic will miss the tournament after having Achilles surgery.

Reijnders made the switch to AC Milan from AZ Alkmaar in 2023.

In the 2024/25 season, he notched 15 goals for the Rossoneri—a fantastic tally for a central midfielder.

His nonstop running and knack for scoring add a fresh spark to City’s midfield.

In 2024/25, City finished third in the Premier League and, for the first time in eight years, left the season without a trophy.

Just last week, chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak admitted the club “probably should have been more aggressive” in last summer’s transfer market.

This move for Reijnders shows a more hands-on attitude.

Manchester City will head into the expanded 32-team FIFA Club World Cup as the reigning champions, having lifted the trophy in Saudi Arabia two years ago.

They’ll go up against Wydad Casablanca of Morocco in their first game in Philadelphia on June 18.

The transfer window stays open until June 10 so teams can register new players, then reopens on June 16.

Reijnders might be only the first of a few new arrivals at the Etihad this summer.

Guardiola clearly wants to refresh his squad as he pushes to get City back to the top both at home and in Europe.
